Man Critical After Golders Green Car Crash

A man is in a life-threatening condition after being struck by a car in Golders Green, north-west London. Emergency services responded to reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Golders Green Road shortly after 8.20pm on Wednesday.

The victim, a 41-year-old Iranian national, was rushed to hospital with critical injuries. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the incident is not being investigated as terrorism. Instead, it is under the purview of the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

A 39-year-old Iraqi national has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, serious injury by dangerous driving, and failing to provide a drug sample. He remains in police custody.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams stated: "We know that this incident will cause significant concerns in the local community and residents can expect a continued police presence throughout the night. Detectives are working to quickly establish the circumstances and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us."

Footage of the incident has been widely circulated on social media. A police spokesperson acknowledged this but advised the public against sharing or viewing the content due to its graphic nature and to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Community Response

Volunteer Jewish security group Shomrim confirmed they responded to the incident alongside police. In a statement on X, the group said: "At this stage, the incident is being treated as a road traffic collision and has not been classified as an antisemitic incident by the Metropolitan Police."
