A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a father in Ayrshire. Alistair Steven, 36, of South Ayrshire, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, August 25. He made no plea and was remanded in custody, with the case committed for further examination.
Victim found injured on Dundonald Main Street
Graham Milliken, 57, from Dundonald, was found injured by police on Dundonald Main Street at around 4.05am on Sunday, August 23. He was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where he died a short time later.
Following a post-mortem examination, police confirmed his death is being treated as murder. Since the tragedy, Graham's son John Mcwilliam has paid tribute to his father.
Tributes to a 'genuine and loving' man
Writing online, John Mcwilliam said: "RIP dad, you were the most genuine and loving man I'd ever had in my life." Others described Graham as a "gem of a man".
Gillian Cooper said: "So sad. Worked with Graham years ago, gem of a man. Rest in peace Graham." Michelle Ferrans said: "RIP Graham! You were a true gent." Debbie Pioli commented: "He was the loveliest man, god bless Graham. So, so sad." Helen Wallace wrote: "This is my son's dad and he is heartbroken. RIP Graham, you will be missed."
Police appeal for information
Images from the scene showed a significant policing response in the area, with multiple police vehicles in attendance and the road closed off. Officers say inquiries into Graham's death are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Jamie Carruth said: "Officers are in the area carrying out enquiries, checking CCTV and speaking to local residents in an effort to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. However, we are still keen to hear from anyone who may have information that would assist our investigation."
"We would be interested to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam or doorbell footage, or anyone who may have heard a disturbance in the area that night to contact us. Officers remain in the area and anyone with any information or concerns can approach them."
