A 47-year-old man has been charged with murder eight months after a 31-year-old woman died in mysterious circumstances. The arrest follows autopsy results that revealed Megan Tangye died as a result of "blunt-force trauma which is believed to be as a result of an assault," Detective Inspector Mark Rogers confirmed.
Discovery at waterfront unit
Megan was found with multiple unexplained injuries at a waterfront unit on Gore Street in Port Macquarie at 11.40am on December 27. She was rushed to hospital but sadly died later that day.
A New South Wales Police spokesperson said: "A man will face court tomorrow charged with murder following an investigation into the death of a woman at Port Macquarie late last year."
Investigation under Strike Force Hazen
"About 11.40am on Saturday 27 December 2025, emergency services were called to a unit on Gore Street, Port Macquarie, where a woman was found to be suffering multiple injuries."
"The woman was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital where she died a short time later. She has since been identified as 31-year-old Port Macquarie woman, Megan Tangye."
"A crime scene was established at the unit and officers attached to the Mid North Coast Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death, under Strike Force Hazen."
Arrest on house boat
Following extensive inquiries, about 6.30am on Monday 24 August 2026, strike force detectives – assisted by Marine Area Command and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad – attended a boat moored in the Hastings River near Westport Park.
"Rangers from Port Macquarie Hastings Council also attended and seized a dog aboard the vessel."
"A 47-year-old man was arrested on the boat and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station. He was charged with murder (DV), and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV). He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 1 tomorrow (Tuesday 25 August 2026)."
Detective Inspector Mark Rogers said police had only just received final findings from an autopsy, which led to the man's arrest. He said: "Whilst there were some preliminary findings for the post-mortem, we only very recently received the actual final findings and that information has been reviewed and we've acted on that."
The cause of death in the findings was as a result of blunt-force trauma which is believed to be as a result of an assault.
