A 58-year-old father and his 27-year-old son have been named as the victims of a fatal stabbing at an office block in south London. Terry McMillan was pronounced dead at the scene, while his son Brendan died later in hospital, Scotland Yard said.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of their murder after the incident at a commercial address in Long Lane, Southwark, on Monday afternoon. A third man was also hospitalised but his injuries were not life-threatening. The suspect was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Local MP Neil Coyle expressed his devastation, calling the attack “absolutely devastating for the family and the local community”. He stressed that police had said it was an isolated incident with no further risk to the public, and urged witnesses to come forward.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the attack is not being treated as terror-related, and detectives from the specialist crime command are leading the investigation. A crime scene remains in place at a nearby hotel where the arrested man went, although police emphasised he was not staying there.
The victims are understood to have worked at the Trademark Group, a property development firm near the scene. Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond said thoughts were with the family and friends of the victims, and that there would be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days.
