A man has been charged after a police officer was taken to hospital following a crash involving an e-bike in Cardiff. South Wales Police was called to Amroth Road, Caerau just after 8.30pm on Tuesday to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and an e-bike.
As a result of the crash, the police officer was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. He has no serious injuries.
Charges and court appearance
Jake Fernades, 25, from Caerau, has been charged with driving a Sur-Ron electric off-road bike dangerously, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, possession with intent to supply cannabis and cultivation of cannabis.
He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, August 13).
Police response to e-bike concerns
In a statement, South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police is committed to tackling community concerns about the illegal and anti-social use of e-bikes and e-scooters in Cardiff.
"Regular operations are taking place."
More than 800 illegal mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) have been seized since August 2025 as a result of joint work with Cardiff Council.
