A major police investigation is underway in County Down following the death of a man in Newcastle on Tuesday evening. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed the arrest of a 32-year-old man in connection with the incident.

The victim, named locally as Sean Small, was discovered in the Bryansford Avenue area of the coastal town. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 10 PM on 27 August 2025, but despite their efforts, Mr. Small was pronounced dead.

Police Investigation Underway

Detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team have launched a murder enquiry following the tragic events. The suspect remains in custody, where he is being questioned by police officers.

A police spokesperson stated: "A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time. Our enquiries are at an early stage, and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact police."
