A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians in Ealing, west London, on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred on Ealing Broadway at approximately 2.30pm, leaving five people injured, three of whom were taken to hospital.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a Somalia-born British man was detained in nearby Grange Park shortly after the incident. He was initially arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and later on suspicion of attempted murder.
Counter-terrorism policing London conducted preliminary inquiries but the incident is not being treated as terrorism. Police said they are keeping an open mind regarding any potential motive.
None of the injuries are life-threatening or life-changing. Two individuals who were not hospitalised received treatment at the scene.
Footage circulating online appears to show bystanders running alongside a white car, kicking it and attempting to open the driver's door before the vehicle accelerated. Road closures remain in place in the area as the investigation continues.
