A murder investigation is underway following a fatal multi-vehicle collision outside a magistrates' court in north-west London, which claimed the life of a 34-year-old man.
Arrest Made in Disturbing Court Incident
A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 4 December, on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Ruben Nunes. The victim, aged 34 and from Peterborough, was pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday afternoon outside Willesden Magistrates' Court in Chapel Close, Willesden.
Metropolitan Police officers were called to the location at 12.44pm on Wednesday, 3 December, following reports of a collision involving a car and pedestrians. They attended alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and crews from the London Fire Brigade.
Emergency Services' Response to the Scene
The response to the incident was significant, with multiple emergency vehicles rushing to Chapel Close. The London Ambulance Service confirmed it sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer, and London's Air Ambulance.
Despite the extensive efforts of medical personnel, the injured man could not be saved. The London Fire Brigade also attended with one fire engine from Willesden Fire Station after being alerted at 12.49pm to a collision involving multiple vehicles.
Photographs from the scene showed a severely damaged car within a police cordon, surrounded by at least three police cars, a van, and an ambulance. The entrance to the court was sealed behind police tape as dozens of people gathered nearby.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact
The suspect remains in police custody as detectives continue their enquiries. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, who leads policing in the area, acknowledged the distress caused to the local community.
"This is a distressing incident and we understand the concern it will cause for the local community," he stated. "Our thoughts are with Ruben's family and friends at this difficult time."
The family of Ruben Nunes has been informed and is receiving support from specialist police officers. Authorities have assured residents of an increased police presence in the area, including more officers on patrol, to assist with the investigation and address community concerns.
Police are urging anyone with information, including dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident, to come forward and contact them directly.
