A man has been detained after police stopped a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on the A55 in North Wales. The incident occurred on the A55 in Anglesey, with social media posts referring to a “stolen taxi”.
Police Intercept Vehicle on A55
North Wales Police confirmed that officers intercepted a vehicle, leading to the temporary closure of the A55. Before the vehicle entered the motorway, a cyclist was struck on London Road in Holyhead.
In a statement, North Wales Police said: “Officers from North Wales Police have successfully stopped a vehicle travelling on the wrong side of the A55 this evening on Anglesey. Officers who encountered the vehicle were travelling on the correct side of the road and were able to safely bring it to a stop.”
Arrest and Injuries
“One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody while enquiries continue. The A55 was temporarily closed while officers dealt with the incident and ensured the road was safe to reopen.”
“Prior to the vehicle entering the A55 a person was knocked off a bicycle on London Road in Holyhead, sustaining non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. A number of parked vehicles were also damaged.”
