A 22-year-old man has been arrested after malicious communications were reportedly sent to several businesses and organisations across Merseyside. Merseyside Police confirmed officers are investigating reports of the emails, which were received today, Thursday, October 15.
Police said the messages were currently believed to be hoaxes, and officers are working to identify those responsible. The arrest comes after police received false reports of incidents earlier this week, which investigators believe could be linked to the latest communications.
Arrest in Norris Green
As part of their inquiries, officers attended an address in Norris Green, where the man was arrested on suspicion of encouraging or assisting serious self-harm by another. He has since been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.
Detective Inspector Steve Frame said: “We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the emails that have been sent to several businesses and organisations in Merseyside today.
Impact on businesses
“These types of emails can have a serious impact on our businesses operating in Merseyside and we are providing advice and reassurance to any employers who have reported this incident.
“We believe these emails could be linked to false reports of police incidents we’ve received this week. A man has been arrested in connection with our ongoing investigation.
“I would encourage anyone to report any malicious communications you receive so we can continue our investigations.”
