A man has been arrested after a car burst into flames in a crash at a busy junction in Oldham.
The smash happened at the junction where Ripponden Road meets Oldham Road, as well as Rochdale Road and Huddersfield Road, in the Denshaw area at around 6.15am on Wednesday, September 16. Two cars were involved, police confirmed.
One of the cars burst into flames amid the smash. Pictures of the aftermath showed the vehicle left badly damaged and burnt out.
Two people hurt in the incident
Police officers, paramedics and fire crews descended on the scene. Two people were hurt in the incident, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.
One suffered minor injuries and one was taken to hospital. A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst under the influence of drugs, the GMP spokesperson added.
The road was closed off for a short time while crews worked on the scene. Firefighters worked to extinguish the car on fire and 'make the area safe'.
Fire service response
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 6:15am this morning (Wednesday 16 September), two fire engines from Rochdale and Oldham, along with the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton, were called to attend a road traffic collision on Oldham Road, Denshaw.
“Crews arrived quickly and worked to extinguish one vehicle fire, working alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe, while passengers were assessed by North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters were in attendance for around 45 minutes.”
