Man Arrested After 3-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Chertsey

On 25 June 2026, Surrey Police launched a murder investigation after the body of a three-year-old girl was found at a semi-detached property on Pyrcroft Road in Chertsey. Officers arrived at approximately 5:40 PM following reports of concern for the child’s welfare. Upon entry, they discovered the girl deceased inside the home.

Arrest and Injury

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was found with a serious injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. Once discharged, he will be taken into police custody. The man’s relationship to the victim has not been disclosed, but police have indicated the incident occurred within a family setting.

Police Statement and Investigation

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “A murder investigation has been launched after a child's body was discovered in Chertsey earlier this evening. Officers were called to an address in Pyrcroft Road around 5.40pm following reports of a concern for safety. On arrival, a three-year-old girl was sadly found dead inside the property. A 31-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder. He was taken to hospital with a serious injury and will be taken into custody once he has been treated. At this stage our enquiries lead us to believe that this took place within a family setting and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”

The investigation is being led by Surrey Police’s Major Crime Team. The Senior Investigating Officer added: “This is a tragic incident, and our officers are working hard to build a picture of what happened. We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and at this stage, we are not looking to identify anyone else in connection with our investigation. We have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public. There is a significant police presence in Pyrcroft Road and this will remain over the coming days. We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as the significant police presence, will be concerning for local residents and we would like to thank them for their cooperation as we conduct our investigation. We will provide further updates as soon as we are in a position to.”

A police cordon remains in place on Pyrcroft Road, and officers will continue to be present in the area in the coming days.
