Detectives have made a murder arrest after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in Levenshulme. A 27-year-old man has been held on suspicion of murder following the incident on Chapel Street last night (August 15).
A forensic tent was erected within Chapel Street park, and the park has remained closed to the public today. A resident told the Manchester Evening News that people were performing CPR on the deceased in the park before he passed away.
Police launch murder investigation
Earlier today, Greater Manchester Police confirmed a murder investigation has been launched. The cordon has remained in place throughout the day, and CSI officers have been present. Officers from GMP's Tactical Aid Unit were also at the scene carrying out a fingertip search as they combed the area for clues.
The force said in a statement: "Officers were called to reports of a man who suffered serious stab wounds on Chapel Street at around 7:06pm. Despite the best efforts of emergency services personnel, a 24-year-old man sadly died at the scene."
"A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody. Several scenes remain in place whilst the investigation continues."
"Work is ongoing to locate the victim's next of kin. It is believed this was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson, from GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim in this tragic incident. Officers acted swiftly to arrest a man, who is in our custody for questioning."

A statement was issued by Levenshulme Labour councillors Coun Zahid Hussain and Coun Basat Sheikh. It read: "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news regarding the incident in Chapel Street Park yesterday. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to the family, loved ones and everyone affected by this tragedy."
