A man and two dogs were pulled from a burning house in Leigh by firefighters after a blaze broke out on the first floor of the property.
Crews were called to a house on Rossall Crescent in Leigh on September 25, with images from the scene showing smoke billowing out of the building. Firefighters used a ladder to reach the first floor and rescue the man and the two dogs, who were then taken out of the property.
Man taken to hospital after rescue
The man was assessed by firefighters at the scene before being handed into the care of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and taken to hospital for further treatment. The two dogs were also brought out of the house safely.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said crews arrived at around 3pm and remained at the scene for approximately three hours.
Crews tackle blaze with specialist equipment
Four fire engines from Hindley, Leigh, Atherton and Farnworth fire stations, along with the Technical Rescue Unit from Leigh fire station, attended the incident. Firefighters reported that the first floor of the property was "well alight" upon arrival.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, positive pressure ventilation and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. Safety checks were also carried out on neighbouring houses.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "At around 3pm this afternoon (Friday, 25th September), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a domestic property on Rossall Crescent in Leigh.
"Firefighters rescued one man and two dogs from a first-floor window using a ladder. The casualty was assessed by firefighters before being handed into the care of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and taken to hospital.
"Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, positive pressure ventilation and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire, and carried out safety checks to the neighbouring houses. Firefighters were at the scene for around three hours."
