A 63-year-old man has died and a woman is in a life-threatening condition following a serious car crash on the M4 near Heathrow Airport, causing major delays for travellers.
Incident Details
Emergency services were called to the scene between Junctions 3 and 4B near Heathrow Airport at around 23:37 on Monday, 1 June, following reports of a serious collision. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after his white VW Golf was involved in the crash. A 62-year-old woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a life-threatening condition. A 29-year-old man was also taken to hospital with injuries deemed not life-threatening or life-changing.
Police Hunt for Suspect
Police are searching for a man driving a black BMW 320i that was also involved in the crash. The suspect fled on foot after the collision and had been pursued by Thames Valley Police officers on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle prior to the crash, though they were not in pursuit at the time of the collision.
Traffic Delays
The M4 westbound remains closed between Junction 3 (Feltham) and Junction 4B (Heathrow Airport) for collision investigations, which are expected to take several hours. National Highways reported delays of around two hours with approximately six miles of congestion on approach. Diversion routes are in place for both Heathrow Terminal 1-4 traffic and general M4 westbound traffic.
Contractors remain at the scene dealing with spillage and clean-up work. There is currently no estimated time for when the carriageway will reopen.
