A man has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure following a series of reported incidents across Stockport, police said today. The 45-year-old was in police custody for questioning on Monday afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police said a total of nine reported incidents of indecent exposure - eight in Stockport and one in neighbouring Derbyshire - have been received since July.
Latest incident near Happy Valley
In the latest incident, at 12.45pm today, a woman contacted police to say a man on a bicycle exposed himself to her and her friends near the Happy Valley nature reserve off Valley Road, Bramhall. The man currently in custody was subsequently arrested at 1.13pm.
In a statement, GMP said: "Including today's incident, Greater Manchester Police have recorded eight reports of indecent exposure across Stockport since July. A further report, believed to be linked, was reported in neighbouring Derbyshire over the weekend."
Locations of reported incidents
The first report was made at Brabyns Park and Roman Lakes in Marple. Further incidents were subsequently reported in Bramhall, including Bramhall Park, Hall Road and Happy Valley, Valley Road. Another report was made on the Meltham Road cycle path towards Station Road in Heaton Mersey.
Detective Inspector Marc Barker said: "Today's arrest follows a number of reports of alleged incidents that have caused significant concern across Stockport and neighbouring areas. Everyone has the right to enjoy public places without fear of harassment of this nature. This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities, and we’ll pursue every avenue to bring those to justice."
