A 44-year-old man has died after being hit by a car outside a pub in Accrington, Lancashire. Four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Blackburn Road and Birch Street near the Nag's Head pub shortly after 10pm on Wednesday. The victim, named as Matthew Weller from Accrington, was taken to hospital but pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said a Volkswagen Passat failed to stop at the scene and was later found abandoned on Barden Road. The vehicle has been recovered for examination.
Three 17-year-old boys from Accrington and an 18-year-old man from Blackburn have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.
Detective Superintendent Mark Dickinson of Lancashire Police's Major Investigation Team appealed for witnesses and dashcam or CCTV footage. He said: 'I know that people in the community are shocked by last night's events but please rest assured that we are doing all we can to establish what has happened.'
