Police have launched a murder investigation after a 29-year-old man was shot dead while sitting in a car outside Euston Station on Saturday night. Emergency services were called at around 11pm to Chalton Street, near King's Cross and St Pancras stations, following reports of gunshots.
The victim was found in a white Nissan Juke with gunshot wounds and died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. CCTV footage shows a suspect arriving and leaving on a bicycle, firing several shots at the man. The victim's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, leading the investigation, said: 'We are aware of the concern that this will cause for the local community, and want to reassure them that we are working hard to identify the attacker and bring them to justice.' She urged anyone with information to contact police via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
A man who works in Chalton Street, known only as Shamim, told the Press Association that a colleague heard 'a big bang... a loud bang a few times.' He added that patrons of the nearby Cock Tavern came out to see what had happened, and described the area as having a 'bad record' for violence, with residents feeling unsafe.
A police cordon remains in place at the scene, and forensic investigators are conducting examinations. The incident comes as two men, aged 18 and 21, are being quizzed on suspicion of murder after a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death in Westminster on Friday night.
