Police were called to Chapel Street in Levenshulme just after 7pm yesterday (August 15) and found a man with 'serious stab wounds'. The 24-year-old victim died at the scene.
Arrest and investigation
A 27-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. The deceased has not yet been named, and police are still attempting to trace his next of kin.
Detectives are appealing for residents who may have video footage of the incident to come forward to assist the murder investigation.

Officers remain at the scene today. Images from the area show a large police cordon on Chapel Street, with officers stationed at entrances and exits to Chapel Street park. A forensic tent is in place within the park.
In a statement released today, Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a man who suffered serious stab wounds on Chapel Street at around 7:06pm."
"Despite the best efforts of emergency services personnel, a 24-year-old man sadly died at the scene. A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody. Several scenes remain in place whilst the investigation continues. Work is ongoing to locate the victim's next of kin. It is believed this was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson, from GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim in this tragic incident. Officers acted swiftly to arrest a man, who is in our custody for questioning. Our investigation is ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone who may have information that can assist us."
