Merseyside Police are continuing to appeal for information to identify a woman whose body was found in a black bin bag near Liverpool FC's Anfield stadium over four weeks ago. The woman, believed to be white and in her 70s, was malnourished and had no teeth, making dental record comparisons impossible.
Discovery at Stanley Park
Officers were called to Stanley Park at around 5.25pm on August 28 and discovered the body in a black bin bag hidden in bushes inside a walled garden. Police believe the body had been there for several weeks before the discovery, prompting an urgent investigation.
The woman was approximately 5ft 2in tall, of slight build, with strawberry-blonde hair. She was wearing a "distinctive" pink Nike T-shirt at the time.
Investigation progress
Detectives have ruled out 126 names in their efforts to identify the woman. They have also spoken to occupants of around 900 properties in the area as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Police said the woman appeared to have suffered from osteoporosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and arthritis in her hands. Forensic analysis has revealed no match on the national DNA database, leading to a re-issued public appeal.
Appeal for information
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald said: "We are hoping that reference to the woman’s medical conditions will jog someone’s memory and assist us in identifying her."
He added: "Whilst we believe the woman to be aged around 70 we have not ruled out that she could be slightly younger or older and we would ask that people take that into consideration."
