A man in his 30s died at Wheatfield Prison in Dublin on August 13, following reports that he was stabbed to death. The Irish Prison Service has expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and next of kin have been informed.
Investigation launched into prison death
An Garda Síochána has confirmed that all aspects of the death are being investigated. A Senior Investigating Officer has been assigned to examine the circumstances, and a family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family.
The Garda National Technical Bureau has been requested to assist, and the Coroner's Office has been notified. Gardaí are awaiting the results of a post-mortem to determine the direction of the investigation.
