A major street in Leicester city centre was closed this morning due to a police incident. Belvoir Street was shut between Stamford Street and Bowling Green Street, with officers urging drivers to find alternative routes.
Police cordoned off the area outside Harvey's nightclub, where a first aid kit and other items were visible inside the taped-off zone. The cordon has since been reduced to just outside the nightclub, and the road has reopened to traffic.
A woman heading to work described the area as “rough” and expressed concern, saying incidents happen frequently. Leicestershire Police confirmed the closure was due to an incident and advised the public to avoid the area while updates were provided.
Pedestrians were still able to use the side of the street opposite the cordon, but through traffic was diverted. The situation has now largely returned to normal.
