Suburban Sydney Street Rocked by Brazen Machine Gun Attack
A quiet street in Sydney's southwest was transformed into a scene of terror in the early hours of Saturday morning after a shooter armed with a machine gun unleashed a hail of bullets into a suburban home. The brazen attack, which saw up to 40 rounds fired, has left the community of Casula in a state of shock.
Chaotic Scene Captured on Video
Police were called to MacKellar Street in Casula at approximately 2:20am on Saturday following reports of gunfire. According to reports, a dark-coloured Audi screeched to a halt outside the property before a passenger allegedly opened fire. Footage obtained by crime news platform SCN Worldstar and published by 7News shows light flaring from the weapon's muzzle as the gunman let off the volley of shots.
The video also captured the driver of the Audi shouting from inside the car, urging their companion to hurry. At one point, the shooter's weapon appeared to jam, prompting the driver to yell, 'Quick, quick, quick, get in, get in.' After the shooter cleared the issue and fired another round of bullets, the driver shouted, 'Quick bro...Drop it, let's go!' The video ends abruptly as the Audi sped away from the scene with its tyres screeching.
Police Condemn "Reckless" Act as Investigations Continue
Authorities confirmed that a black Audi was seen driving west along Leacocks Lane shortly after the incident. Fortunately, no one was inside the property at the time of the shooting, and there have been no reports of any injuries. It is understood the former occupants had moved out of the home about three weeks prior to the attack.
Liverpool City Police Area Command Superintendent Scott Tanner strongly condemned the attack. 'It's reckless, it's dangerous,' he stated. 'We won't stand for it. There are a number of families that reside in that street and all it takes is one bullet to go astray and it can cause massive heartache for families.'
Police revealed that several former residents of the home are known to them, and initial investigations suggest this was a targeted incident. One shaken neighbour told The Daily Telegraph, 'I was s*** scared. Never heard anything like it. Sounded like a movie. I didn't even want to peek out the window.'
Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information, or with dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area around the time of the shooting, to contact Liverpool Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
