The M62 in West Yorkshire has been closed to traffic in both directions late on Tuesday night following a police-led incident. National Highways confirmed the motorway is shut between J24 (Huddersfield) and J25 (Brighouse) to all vehicles as emergency services respond.
Air ambulance deployed to scene
An air ambulance has been dispatched to the location, based on footage shared on social media. Actor John Barrowman MBE witnessed the incident and posted on X: "Whatever has happened the person must be badly injured as an air ambulance has arrived."
A National Highways spokesperson said: "Emergency services are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene to assist with traffic management." The westbound carriageway was already closed for planned roadworks, with National Highways adding: "Please note that due to planned overnight roadworks the M62 is closed in both directions between J22 to J25."
Diversion routes issued
National Highways has put in place several diversion routes for affected road users. Eastbound drivers in vehicles at or below 15'9" (4.8m) in height should follow the hollow triangle symbol, exiting at J24 onto the A629, then the A643, A6107, A62, and A644 to rejoin at J25.
Eastbound drivers in vehicles above 15'9" (4.8m) should follow the solid circle symbol, exiting at J24 onto the A629, then A643, A6107, A641, and A644 to rejoin at J25. Westbound drivers at or below the height limit should follow the solid diamond symbol, exiting at J25 onto the A644, then A62, A6107, A643, and A629 to rejoin at J24.
Westbound drivers in taller vehicles should follow the solid triangle symbol, exiting at J25 onto the A644, then A641, A6107, A643, and A629 to rejoin at J24. Drivers are then advised to follow signed diversions for planned roadworks on the M62 westbound from J24 to J22.
