M62 closed for hours after serious collision in Greater Manchester

The M62 westbound in Greater Manchester remains closed and is expected to stay shut for several hours following a serious collision involving several vehicles. Emergency services attended the scene late on Saturday night, with National Highways Traffic Officers also arriving quickly.

The crash took place on the westbound carriageway between junction 22 (Denshaw) and junction 21 (Rochdale). National Highways said on Sunday morning that the carriageway remains closed while police collision investigations continue at the scene.

National Highways statement

In an earlier statement, National Highways said: "The M62 westbound is closed in Greater Manchester, between J22 (Denshaw) and J21 (Rochdale) due to a serious collision involving several vehicles. Greater Manchester Police and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene."

The statement added: "There is currently a large amount of debris in the carriageway which will need to be cleared once vehicles have been recovered. Police investigations remain ongoing. The closure is likely to remain in place for several hours."
