Paul Doyle, the 53-year-old suspect in the Liverpool FC parade car crash, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday via video link from HMP Belmarsh. Doyle, from Burghill Road in West Derby, faces multiple charges after a Ford Galaxy was driven into crowds of fans during the Premier League title celebrations on May 26.
Over 100 pedestrians, including children and a 78-year-old woman, were injured on Water Street just after 6pm, with 50 requiring hospital treatment. All have since been discharged. The charges include 18 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, with victims named as six-month-old Teddy Eveson and others aged from seven months to 17 years, as well as adults.
Further charges allege causing grievous bodily harm with intent to an 11-year-old boy, a 12-year-old child, a 17-year-old boy, and six adults. Doyle also faces wounding with intent charges against two men, as well as affray and dangerous driving. He previously pleaded not guilty to all charges at a plea hearing last month.
Judge Andrew Menary adjourned the case to a further mention hearing on November 18, with the trial scheduled to begin on November 24 and expected to last three to four weeks. Doyle was remanded in custody.
