GBar, a gay bar in Liverpool city centre, has had its licence suspended with immediate effect after three men were stabbed outside the venue last weekend. Liverpool Council’s licensing and gambling sub-committee took the action, pending a full hearing expected to take place in October.
Incident details
Officers were called to Tithebarn Street in Liverpool city centre at around 6.35am on Sunday, September 20 2026, after three men were found injured. The victims were taken to hospital for assessment. One man remains in hospital in a stable condition, while the other two suffered minor injuries.
It is believed the incident took place outside GBar on Eberle Street following an alleged altercation between two groups inside the venue.
Licence suspension and response
Karl Bruder, agent on behalf of Howard Gwynn, designated premises supervisor, said the owners were “disappointed” by what had happened outside the venue and they had been “let down” by management. It is understood individuals have also been dismissed from the venue.
Mr Bruder said it was an “unusually exceptional” position for the operators to find themselves in, given their portfolio of venues across the city. He said “impactful” changes are being made at GBar and officials would work with Merseyside Police ahead of the full licence review hearing. Until such time, GBar must remain closed.
Police comment and charges
Chief Superintendent Natalie Perischine, Liverpool BCU, said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to anyone who chooses to carry a weapon in the city centre and my message to those individuals is ‘we will hunt you down’. Officers have been working round the clock to identify those responsible for this shocking incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.”
She added: “Within hours of it taking place we had executed a number of warrants and now have three people in custody. Our proactive work to combat violence in the city centre remains a priority and we are seeing positive results. As part of Operation Amalfi, which focuses on youth violence, and Operation Monaco, we have seen an uplift in proactive city centre patrols, increased visibility at weekends and public holidays, the successful use of dispersal zones and city centre banning orders and continued partnership work. Year on year we have seen a 10% reduction in serious violence in the city centre as well as reductions in knife and violent crime.”
Merseyside Police confirmed three men have been charged following the stabbing. Patrick Morgan, 31, of Canterbury Way, Liverpool, has been charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding with intent; Violent Disorder; and Possession of a bladed article. Jonny Gee, 18, of Halkyn Drive, Everton, has been charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding with intent; Violent Disorder; and Possession of a bladed article. Stephen Gee, 22, of Halkyn Drive, Everton, has been charged with one count of Section 18 wounding with intent; Violent Disorder; and Possession of Class B controlled drugs.
All three appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court this morning.
