Armed police have swooped on Seel Street in Liverpool city centre this evening, cordoning off a busy area near the Ropewalks Hotel as part of a significant emergency response.
Multiple police cars, matrix vans, and two fire engines have been deployed, with heavily armed officers from Merseyside Police present at the scene. The operation began shortly after 4pm on Saturday, 9 May 2026, following reports of a missing man.
Police Statement
Merseyside Police released a statement confirming the incident: 'We are in attendance on Seel Street, Liverpool this evening as part of enquiries to locate a man who had been reported missing. We were called shortly after 4pm to a report the man had been seen in the area.'
Upon arrival, the man made threats to officers from inside a hotel room on Seel Street. Police have put a containment in place as a precaution while they engage with the individual.
