Fire crews from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to Rumford Place in Liverpool city centre at around 2.21pm on Tuesday after reports of smoke in a corridor on the seventh floor of a 24-storey apartment block.
Five fire engines and an aerial appliance arrived within four minutes. Firefighters found smoke coming from the door of a flat and entered wearing breathing apparatus. They discovered that an air fryer had been left on a hob, causing the fire in the kitchen.
Blaze extinguished by 3.03pm
Crews extinguished the blaze by 3.03pm and used an industrial fan to ventilate the flat. A cordon was put in place outside the building while firefighters worked, but no injuries were reported and the road has since reopened.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews were called to a high rise building on Rumford Place, Liverpool this afternoon after reports of smoke in a corridor on the seventh floor of the twenty-four floor building."
"Crews were alerted at 2.21pm and on scene at 2.25pm, with five fire engines and an aerial appliance in attendance. On arrival crews proceeded to the seventh floor to investigate and gained entry to a flat with smoke issuing through the door."
"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the kitchen area of the flat and found that an air fryer had been left on a hob, causing the fire, which was extinguished by 3.03pm."
"An industrial fan was used to ventilate the property. There were no casualties."
