A 21-year-old former student has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot with a crossbow at the University of Surrey's Manor Park student village in Guildford.
The victim, a member of the university's campus safety team in his 50s, suffered serious injuries and is being treated at Royal Surrey County Hospital. Police were called to the scene at approximately 9.50am on Thursday.
The suspect, a Saudi national, was detained at the scene shortly after the incident. Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: 'I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities, and I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.'
The university confirmed that a member of its campus safety team was seriously injured and is receiving medical care. A spokesperson added: 'Surrey police are leading the investigation and we are giving them our full support.'
