Vincent Kompany has said he is "not too occupied" by former club Manchester City being found guilty of the majority of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. An independent commission found City guilty of all charges relating to breaches of the Premier League's financial regulations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
Kompany's response
The Etihad club have appealed against the verdict and claimed in a statement that the commission's ruling contained "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe". Kompany was at City throughout the period in question, having joined in 2008 before spending 11 years there.
The current Bayern Munich boss was named City captain in 2011, a role he held until he departed in 2019, but he refused to be drawn on the case involving his old club. He said: "I'm only thinking about my work at FC Bayern. We have important games coming up, and that takes a lot of time.
"There's not much time to think about other stuff. For me it's simple, I played 11 years for the club and I've loved all the years I've played for the club. Everything we've achieved and done on the pitch I'm really proud of. Everything else, as a player you're not a part of that."
Maresca's confidence
"And right now as a coach of Bayern Munich I'm not too occupied with that topic as much as preparing for the game next week and the game we have to win tomorrow and everything I have as a coach," he added.
While speaking on Friday, City boss Enzo Maresca said the club's owners are "convinced" they will win their appeal and believes the titles they have won have not been tainted. He said: "The reason why I joined this club is because I completely trust, 100 per cent, the owner, the CEO, the sporting director, the whole organisation. I don't have any doubt about that.
"There is not another club in the world where I would like to be. I am very happy to be here, I am very proud, as I've said since day one. I would like to speak about this situation when we are going to win the appeal. I completely trust the club in this moment, in the future, always."
Asked whether the trophies won during the period in question were tainted, Maresca replied: "Absolutely not. I know the effort from the players, the club and the manager at the time, Pep (Guardiola), so I don't have any doubt about that." He then added: "There is not another club in the world where I would like to be."
