An investigation has been launched after a person died following an incident at Marsden railway station. Officers were called to the station, between Huddersfield and Stalybridge, at 6.15am on August 28.
A person was taken to hospital from the scene, where they later died, according to British Transport Police. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances.
Emergency response at Marsden station
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Marsden station at around 6.15am this morning (August 28) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended, along with paramedics and a person was taken to hospital where they later died. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to their death."
Train disruption and reopening
The incident led to TransPennine Express services being stopped between Manchester and West Yorkshire this morning. Railway lines have since reopened, but some disruption is ongoing.
National Rail said: "The emergency services have now safely completed their work in dealing with an incident between Stalybridge and Huddersfield, allowing all lines to reopen. Whilst service recovers, trains may continue to be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes. Major disruption is expected until 12:00."
