An investigation has been launched after a Bee Network bus was driven towards oncoming traffic on a Greater Manchester motorway. Witnesses reported seeing a double decker bus travelling westbound joining the eastbound carriageway of the M67 at the Hattersley Roundabout at around 5.45am this morning (October 2).
Incident on M67
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has confirmed an incident involving a Bee Network bus facing oncoming traffic on the Tameside motorway. Fortunately, no passengers were on board the bus at the time.
Metroline, which operates the bus involved in the incident, has launched an investigation into what happened. TfGM confirmed the bus had not been stolen prior to the incident, and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Safety response
Nick Fairclough, TfGM’s Interim Deputy Director of Bus, said: “We are aware of an incident early this morning which resulted in a Bee Network bus facing oncoming traffic on the M67. There were no passengers on board and the driver was assisted off the motorway safely.
“A full investigation is now being carried out by the operator, Metroline. Safety remains the overriding priority for the Bee Network and we will work with the operator to establish the circumstances that led to this incident and take any appropriate action.”
