Social media influencer Klaudia Zakrzewska has died six days after being hit by a car outside a London nightclub, police have confirmed. The 32-year-old, known online as Klaudiaglam, was struck in Argyll Street, Soho, at around 4.30am on 19 April and pronounced dead on Saturday.
A 58-year-old man also suffered life-changing injuries in the incident. Gabrielle Carrington, a former X Factor finalist, appeared in court on Tuesday accused of attempting to kill Zakrzewska outside the Inca nightclub. The Metropolitan Police said the charge will now be increased to murder.
Carrington, 29, of Broadfield Road, Manchester, is also accused of dangerous driving, being nearly twice the drink-drive limit, and causing injuries to two other people – a woman and a security guard – who were allegedly hit by her Mercedes. She made it to the X Factor live finals in 2013 as part of Miss Dynamix.
Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell expressed deepest sympathies to Zakrzewska's family and urged the public to refrain from speculation on social media. She also asked people not to share graphic footage out of respect for the victims and to avoid prejudicing the ongoing investigation.
Nearly £18,000 was raised via GoFundMe for Zakrzewska's treatment and legal fees. Her mother, Kinga, wrote on the page: 'Anyone who knew my gorgeous daughter knows how truly wonderful she is.' Carrington was remanded in custody after appearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 21 April and is due at the Old Bailey on 19 May.
