IKEA has issued a statement after a major emergency response at its Ashton-under-Lyne store, where a woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Swedish furniture giant confirmed that an "isolated incident" took place at its Greater Manchester store on Monday (September 28), with emergency services attending the scene.
Emergency response at Wellington Road store
The store on Wellington Road was the focus of a large emergency response earlier today, with multiple police vehicles, ambulances and tactical aid vans seen outside. An air ambulance was also spotted landing on the roof of the multi-storey car park at around 11.30am, while armed police were reportedly seen at the scene.
An IKEA spokesperson said: "We can confirm that an isolated incident occurred at our Manchester store today and emergency services attended. Our immediate priority was the safety and wellbeing of the individual involved, as well as our co-workers and customers.
"We are providing support to the co-workers involved and, out of respect, will not be commenting further."
Police confirm woman hospitalised
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) later confirmed officers had been called to the store following reports of a 'concern for welfare'. The force said a woman had been taken to hospital with 'serious injuries'.
In a statement on Facebook, the Tameside division of GMP said: "Officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare at a store on Wellington Rodd in Ashton-under-Lyne.
"Multiple emergency services responded and a woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. We thank people for their patience and understanding as our work continues."
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been confirmed.
