A man has been seriously injured in a suspected drive-by shooting near a mosque in Huddersfield. Armed police were called to Clara Street at around 2.30pm on Friday after reports of a firearms discharge.
The victim, whose injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening, was taken to hospital by family and friends before paramedics arrived. An eyewitness said a car had been circling the mosque 'waiting' for the victim to come out before the attack.
Mohammed Mahfooz, 70, who was attending Friday prayers at the nearby mosque, said: 'I heard two gunshots. I heard someone had been shot. Everyone was shocked.'
West Yorkshire Police have set up crime scenes on Clara Street and nearby. Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
