Residents of a quiet Northumberland village have been evacuated from their homes after police discovered 'suspicious items' during a routine arrest. The incident occurred on Welbeck Road in Guide Post in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Northumbria Police attended the address just before 4.30am to carry out standard arrest enquiries. Upon entering the property, officers located a quantity of suspicious items, prompting a precautionary evacuation of neighbouring addresses.
A cordon has been established, and specialist teams are expected to arrive at the scene. Police have stated that the incident is not linked to any other ongoing investigations.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: 'Once inside the property, a quantity of suspicious items have been located. To ensure the safety of the public, a number of addresses have been evacuated as a precaution.' The exact nature of the items has not yet been disclosed.
