Homes evacuated after police car crashes into Bolton shop

Homes have been evacuated in Bolton after a police car collided with another vehicle before crashing into a shop on Blackburn Road. Emergency services are at the scene, and a cordon has been set up near the Asda supermarket in Astley Bridge. The road is closed in both directions.

Police statement on the crash

Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 12pm on Friday, October 2, a police car collided with a vehicle before crashing into a shop on Blackburn Road, Bolton, whilst responding to a different incident on blue lights."

"Emergency services are in attendance and no serious injuries have been reported. A cordon is currently in place due to a suspected gas leak and residents have been evacuated. Roads closures are in place as emergency services deal with the incident."

Road closures and ongoing response

Blackburn Road remains closed in both directions while emergency services continue to deal with the incident. The police car was responding to a separate incident when the collision occurred.
