One person was taken to hospital following a crash involving a Stagecoach bus in Heaton, Newcastle. Emergency services attended the scene on Warwick Street at around 10.30am on Thursday.
Two-vehicle collision on Warwick Street
Northumbria Police confirmed that the two-vehicle collision was reported to them this morning, with officers attending the scene. The force added that the road closure remains in place so that the vehicles involved can be recovered.
Photographs taken at the scene show several police officers and vehicles around a Stagecoach bus, which can be seen with clear damage to its front. A plate of metal looks to be hanging off the front of the bus, with a large dent in the front window which has smashed a section of glass. The condition of the other vehicle is unclear.
Road closure and traffic delays
With the road having been closed for several hours at this point, traffic congestion is expected in the area. Drivers around Heaton may benefit from finding an alternative route to avoid the majority of delays.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a collision involving one of our buses and a car took place on Warwick Street in Newcastle at around 10.25am today. One customer on the bus sustained an injury and was taken to hospital by police. We are assisting with enquiries into the circumstances of the incident and are liaising with the relevant authorities."
