Plumes of smoke filled the sky over Walton on Tuesday afternoon as a grass fire broke out near a corner shop. Videos shared with the ECHO capture the flames taking hold of a grass verge at the junction of Richard Kelly Drive and Abingdon Grove, with onlookers watching in shock.
Emergency Response
Another video shows emergency services arriving at the scene. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire has been extinguished. A spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is currently in attendance at an incident on Walton Hall Avenue, Liverpool. Crews were alerted at 4.26pm to reports of a grass fire. Two fire engines arrived on scene at 4.35pm. On arrival crews found a grass fire measuring approximately 60 metres by 50 metres. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus immediately began fighting the fire using a hose reel jet."
Fire Extinguished
The fire has now been extinguished and breathing apparatus is no longer in use. One fire engine remains on scene to dampen down the area.
