Police investigating the murders of two men in Glasgow have seized and reviewed more than 4,000 hours of CCTV footage. Paul Lafferty, 50, and Gary Beaton, 54, were found seriously injured at a property on Chancellor Street in Partick on Sunday, August 16, and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Deaths treated as murder
Following post-mortem examinations, police confirmed the deaths are being treated as murder. A knife is believed to have been involved, and it is understood the murder weapon has not yet been found. Both families have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A dedicated team of officers is continuing extensive inquiries, including reviewing the seized CCTV. Detectives from the Major Investigation Team are being supported by national resources, including specialist forensic officers.
Appeal for information
Detective Superintendent Cheryl Kelly, of the Major Investigation Team, said: "This is a very difficult time for the families of both Paul and Gary, and they continue to be supported by specialist officers. We have significant resources dedicated to getting them answers and we would again urge anyone with information to come forward."
She added: "As well as enquiries being carried out in Chancellor Street, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes, including exploring forensic opportunities. While this may not be as visible, please be assured we are working tirelessly and are following a number of significant lines of enquiry. We have seized more than 4000 hours of public and private CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Extensive inquiries are ongoing and I want to thank everyone who has already come forward to assist with our investigation. We are still keen to hear from anyone with any information. Community reassurance
Superintendent Craig Brady, Greater Glasgow Division, said: "My thoughts remain with the family and friends of Paul and Gary. This was a shocking incident for the Partick community, and I understand there will be concerns for those living in the area. I would like to thank everyone for their help with the investigation so far. High visibility patrols remain in the area and there will be an increased police presence as the investigation continues. If anyone has any concerns, or information, please speak to officers."
Writing on social media, Paul's daughter Cerys Lafferty said: "I will love and miss you every single day for the rest of my life." His other daughter, Jade Lafferty, added: "I'll love you for life, lifetimes."
