Girl, 11, found dead in Worcestershire park after going missing

An 11-year-old girl who was reported missing on Sunday evening has been found dead in a park in Worcestershire. West Mercia Police said her death is being treated as unexplained at this stage.

Discovery near cricket ground

The girl was initially reported missing at around 11.20pm on Sunday, October 4. Her body was later found in the park near the cricket ground in Elmley Castle, the force said.

Her family has been informed and is being supported by specially-trained officers.

Investigation underway

Police said they are carrying out investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding her death. In a statement, West Mercia Police said: "An investigation has been launched after the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire. The girl was reported missing at around 11.20pm yesterday evening (Sunday 4 October) and was later found deceased in the park near the cricket ground."

"Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, which at this stage is being treated as unexplained."

Increased police presence

People living in Elmley Castle will see an increased police presence in the area while officers carry out their enquiries.
