A woman claims she was scratched by the "demonic spirit" of a child named Sallie while exploring an infamous haunted property. Brocarde, 42, chose to spend the night in the Sallie House in Atchison, Kansas. The 19th-century home is reputedly haunted, with numerous individuals reporting paranormal activity and sightings. According to legend, a doctor operated on a young girl named Sallie at the address in the early 1900s, but she died during the procedure.
Eerie Atmosphere and Disturbing Encounters
Brocarde, from Oxfordshire, said she was left shaken and bedbound for days after her experience. She described the house as "eerie as hell," noting that it instantly drains every ounce of energy upon arrival. The interior is almost completely empty, save for hundreds of toys and dolls. "The decor is lost in time, like a house your great-grandma would've needed to redecorate. The smell is also slightly off, a weird mix of rotting flesh and heavy chemicals," she said.
The most terrifying room, according to Brocarde, is the nursery. She arrived to find a circle of dolls seemingly conducting a seance. "I stood in the centre of the circle and could instantly feel my legs get heavy, like they were being sucked into the ground. My limbs started to ache, a strange sensation entered my body, and I just wanted to leave. This was in the afternoon and I still had the whole night to get through." Weird occurrences continued, but it wasn't until around 3 am that she encountered something compelling her to leave.
Communication with the Spirit
After spending hours in the house, Brocarde felt something grab her leg in the basement, accompanied by an "otherworldly" presence. Deciding that sleep was impossible, she returned to the nursery to confront whatever was there. She attempted to communicate with Sallie by using crayons. "I grabbed a pink crayon, but something snapped it in my hand. I thought perhaps pink wasn't her colour, so I picked up a black crayon and asked what she wanted to say." The message "Go home" appeared, and then the crayon snapped in two.
At that moment, Brocarde felt something grab her from behind and experienced a stabbing pain in her arm. Pulling back her sleeve, she discovered five scratch marks resembling tally marks. "I felt sick, feverish, and very dizzy, and the apparition of a young girl appeared. I was sitting on the floor, but immediately jumped up and started to follow her into the front bedroom. When I reached the landing, I felt something fly past me and down the stairs." She went to investigate and saw a toy dog at the bottom of the stairs by the front door. "If the little girl was in the front bedroom, who was in the nursery, throwing objects?" she wondered.
Final Straw and Departure
Brocarde ran downstairs, deciding it was time to leave, but not before another trip to the basement. Halfway down the stairs, something grabbed her leg again. "That was the final straw. Whatever haunts The Sallie House is sinister, and I needed to remove myself." She noticed a drawing of Sallie in the kitchen, but the image was vastly different from the ghost she saw upstairs. "She was messy, in a medical gown, distorted, and she definitely didn't have a pretty bow in her hair."
Brocarde previously made headlines after 'marrying' the ghost of a Victorian soldier named Edwardo. She documented their tumultuous affair, which culminated in an exorcism 'divorce', and has since continued to explore the paranormal realm.
