GB News presenter reveals death threats against his children

GB News presenter Ben Leo has said death threats were made towards his family, including his children, and that police were unable to take the case further after a year-long investigation.

Leo took to X with a video update, saying he first encountered the threats on social media during the summer of 2025. He said: "By the way, I'm used to death threats towards me. That's fine, I can handle it, but they were towards my family and my children."

The presenter said he alerted Sussex police to the matter, though the case was later passed to the Metropolitan Police due to the perpetrator being London-based.

Year-long wait for answers

Leo added: "It took a year for the Met to liaise with social media companies, ironically under the Online Safety Act, to find out where this threat came from. Long story short, it was 12 months of waiting. We had close protection security officers during that time."

He continued: "Rianne and the kids had a close protection officer walking them to school, going to the shops with them. I had somebody with me 24 hours a day as well - all courtesy of GB News."

"Long story short, I found out from the Met last week, despite them saying the week before, 'We're about to arrest somebody, it is the highest category of offence in this instance because it cited children and a weapon. It was done anonymously on social media, and it's a vulnerable group with Kids.'"

Police unable to identify suspect

"They called the next week, saying, 'Oh, bit of an update, sorry, it's bad news. Because there are two people who live at the address where the IP was linked, they don't know which person it was. Also, they said there was a third person who visited the address using the same IP, so it's one of those three people,'" reports the Express.

Following the revelation that officers couldn't take matters further, Leo said: "How about you go round and ask them - and you know, investigate? Police are happy enough to make 12,000 arrests each year for social media posts, but when it comes to threatening to kill the children of someone who speaks up for the country, it's apparently not a big issue despite the gravity of the offence."

He then ended his message with: "Thank you again to GB News for all their support. They have been top class. Shame I can't say the same about the police."

Support from colleagues and fans

Within moments of posting the update, Leo was flooded with supportive messages from pals and followers: "I'm so sorry you and your family have had to go through this. It's horrific. Sending love to you and your family."

Fellow GB News presenter Candice Holdsworth said: "I am so sorry, Ben. Completely unacceptable. We should not have to live like this," while someone else wrote: "Ben, this is horrendous. Hope the family stays safe."
