A man suspected of murdering his wife and dragging her body into a forest has been arrested in Peru after turning himself in to Interpol.
Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo, 36, is accused of killing Sheylla Cabrera, 33, whose remains were discovered in Angeles National Forest, north of Los Angeles. Doorbell footage showed him dragging a large object wrapped in a sheet from their apartment.
He fled to Peru with their three sons, who have since been taken into protective custody. Cabrera surrendered at Interpol headquarters in Lima and is being held in preventive detention pending extradition to the United States.
Sheylla's mother said there was a history of domestic abuse, alleging Cabrera had hit her daughter and even slapped their three-year-old child. District Attorney Nathan Hochman said domestic violence 'creates chaos in our communities and shatters families.'
Police discovered Sheylla's body on Saturday, wrapped in a sheet similar to the one seen in the footage. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing of murder charges.
