Two men are in a critical condition in hospital after 'violent disorder' in south Wales led to the arrest of four men. Gwent Police responded to reports of a disturbance near Mill Road and Hospital Road in Pontnewynydd, near Pontypool, at 7:15pm on Thursday, August 6.
Police response and road closures
Armed officers and a police helicopter were deployed to the scene. A road closure remains in place overnight between Mill Road and Hospital Road, with diversions in operation. The road is expected to stay closed into Friday morning as investigators examine the area.
Injuries and arrests
Three men were hospitalised following the incident, with two in a critical condition. Of the four men arrested, two remain in police custody.
Detective Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey said: “Violence in any form is completely unacceptable and anyone who is found to be involved in this disorder will be dealt as we will not accept this behaviour in our communities.”

Police are urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 7pm and 7.30pm on Thursday to come forward.
