Four arrested after Oldham disturbance with police cordon

Four people have been arrested following a disturbance in Oldham on the night of September 30. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers were called to reports of a disturbance in the residential area of Oak Street, Shaw, where a cordon was put in place from around 7.30pm until approximately 1pm the following day.

Arrests on suspicion of affray

One woman and three men were arrested on suspicion of affray and taken into custody for questioning, GMP confirmed. An address on nearby Britannia Avenue was cordoned off, according to residents.

Eyewitnesses told the Manchester Evening News they heard screaming before the police arrived. One anonymous witness said they heard a commotion around 8pm on Wednesday but initially dismissed it, thinking it was one of the frequent arguments from the area. Police later knocked on their door to check on neighbours, and the witness reported hearing screams of “give me my bag back” near a police vehicle.

Police statement and appeal

In a statement, GMP said: “We were called to a disturbance at 7.42pm on Wednesday 30 September on Oak Street, Oldham. Four people, one woman and three men, were arrested on suspicion of affray and taken to custody for questioning.”
