Forensic teams and police Matrix units have returned to Stanley Park to carry out further searches of the surrounding bushes and grounds as the murder investigation into a woman's death continues.
The victim's body was found wrapped inside a black bin bag in the park's walled garden on Friday, August 28. Detectives believe the body had been hidden at the location for several weeks before being spotted by a member of the public.
Forensic Markers and Pink Suitcase at Scene
During recent searches, officers placed forensic markers along nearby pavements and set up a cordon at the Anfield Road entrance. Investigators were also seen examining a bright pink suitcase located within the taped-off area.
The unidentified woman is described as being around 70-years-old, 5ft 2in tall, of slight build, with strawberry blonde hair. She was found wearing a distinctive pink Nike T-shirt.
Public Leads and DNA Profile
Police have received more than 120 reports from the public, including approximately 40 potential names for the victim. However, officers have already ruled out several lines of enquiry based on those leads, and her identity remains unknown.
A DNA profile was successfully extracted, but there were no matches on the national database. Investigators have also checked dental records.
Ongoing Investigation and Appeal
A post-mortem examination has been conducted on the victim's body. However, detectives have withheld the cause of death from the public for investigative reasons.
Detectives are reviewing missing person reports, trawling CCTV and working with neighbouring police forces to trace the victim. Authorities continue to urge anyone with relevant information, photos or video footage to contact Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers.
