A Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly ran over a woman he met on a dating app when she refused to allow him to smell her feet.
The incident occurred at around 2pm on 24 August at the Serena Hotel in Aventura, about 20 miles north of Miami. Police said 28-year-old Elmoncy Sercle met the woman through the app Seeking and invited her to the hotel.
The woman, who spoke to Local 10 News but asked not to be identified, said she had agreed to meet Sercle to sell him a pair of used shoes, but became uncomfortable when he wanted to sniff her feet. She told him it would cost $1,000 because she is a foot model.
According to an arrest affidavit, she then excused herself to the restroom, and Sercle ran out of the room. Believing he had stolen her belongings, she chased him into the hotel's parking garage and confronted him as he got into a red Mercedes SUV. Officers said Sercle accelerated towards her, made a three-point turn, and struck her with the vehicle, causing road rash and bruising to her back, arms and chest that required immediate medical attention.
Sercle fled but was later arrested on a charge of aggravated battery. He has since been released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on 29 September. Court records indicate he has multiple open cases in Miami-Dade County involving women he allegedly met on dating apps, lured to hotels, and then robbed.
