Fireworks fired at homes and care home as Hartlepool fight sparks dispersal order
Fireworks fired at homes and care home in Hartlepool disorder

Fireworks were fired towards residential properties and a care home in Hartlepool after a large group of youths gathered for a pre-planned fight, prompting police to impose a dispersal order.

Cleveland Police officers were called to Bishop Cuthbert Park on Friday, October 2, where a large number of youngsters had gathered, apparently for a pre-planned fight. Although many dispersed on the arrival of police, several small groups remained in the vicinity and further anti-social behaviour ensued, including fireworks being launched towards homes and in the direction of a care home.

Dispersal order introduced

The dispersal order came into effect at 3pm on Saturday, October 3. Under its terms, anyone found engaging in anti-social behaviour within the designated area can be immediately directed to leave by officers. Should they return within the 48-hour duration of the order, they face the possibility of arrest.

Hartlepool Neighbourhoods Inspector Adrian Dack said: "Given the many recent reports of youth ASB in and around Bishop Cuthbert Park, we have no option but to bring in this dispersal order. Last night's incidents where residents reported fearful about large numbers of young people congregating in public spaces and throwing fireworks were completely unacceptable and we will not tolerate it."

Public safety concerns

Inspector Dack added: "Obviously such behaviour presents a clear risk to public safety, particularly given the vulnerability of residents within the care setting. I would appeal to parents and carers to ensure they know where their children and young people are going on an evening and what they're getting up to."

The dispersal order encompasses Hart Road (A179), Easington Road (A179), Throston Grange Lane, Falcon Road, Goldfinch Road, Bluebell Way, Primrose Road and Merlin Way.
