Emergency services launched a large-scale operation early on Wednesday morning after a house fire broke out on a residential street in North Shields. Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police were called to the scene on Cragside Avenue, North Tyneside, at around 3.30am.
Extensive Damage Reported
Photos from the scene show extensive damage to the roof and window of the affected property, with the roof burnt through. A resident told ChronicleLive that eight fire appliances were dispatched to tackle the blaze.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 3.30am today (Wednesday), we were alerted by the fire service to a fire at an address in the Cragside Avenue area of North Shields. Emergency services are currently in attendance. A section of the road has also been closed."
Cause and Injuries Unknown
The cause of the fire and whether anyone has been injured remain unknown at this stage. Emergency services remain on the scene, and a police cordon is in place, closing a section of the road.
